Foxhounds were the very first of their canine races in Great Britain to come under the domination of technological breeding. There'd been hounds of more ancient origin, like the Southern Hound and the Bloodhound; but some thing different was desired near the end of the seventeenth century to search the wild deer that had become scattered following Cromwell's civil war. The demand was consequently to get a faster hound than those hitherto understood, and individuals devoted to the chase began to breed it.
Head:-

Somewhat wide, not peaked like the Bloodhound, but long from the apex to the frontal bones, eyebrows very notable, lips cut blank in the eye into the nostril, ears set low and within their natural state thin and shapely, but not big, nose big, jaw strong and flat, and little dewlaps, expression fierce, and with the best often repellent.
Eyes:-

Very bright and deeply set, filled with conviction, and with a very steady expression. The look of the Foxhound is very remarkable.
Neck ought to be perfectly clean, no skin ruffle whatever. The amount of neck is of significance, both for stooping and giving a feeling of majesty.
Shoulders:-

The blades should be well into the back, and ought to slant, otherwise be broad and strong, to meet the arms, so that ought to be long and Dog Clothes powerful.
Feet and toenails:-
The bone needs to be perfectly right from the arm downward, and descend at the exact same degree of size to the ankles. The knee should be nearly flat and flat; there should not be any curve until coming to the feet, which should be very powerful, around, cat-shaped, and each toe wash set as it were.
Coat:-

The jacket is hard hair, but short and smooth, the texture is as stiff as fingernails, however beautifully laid.
Colour:-
Belvoir tan, that is brown and black, perfectly intermixed, with white markings of different shapes and sizes. The white should be quite opaque and clear. Black and black, with tan markings on head and stifles. Badger pied a sort of grey and white. Lemon pied, light yellow and white. Hare pied, a darker white and yellow.
Height: Dogs from 23-1/2 to 24 inches; bitches from 22 to 22-1/2 inches.
