The horrific scene occurred on Monday evening at Chongyang People's Hospital in Xianning city, Hubei province of central China.
The incident was revealed by Chinese media yesterday after the images and video became viral.
The patient is said to have been attacked after getting into a fight with someone, the county hospital told [ ].
A doctor said that the man had a successful operation and was in stable condition.
Local police told the press Wednesday that they were investigating the incident. But the officers did not receive any report related to the man's injury.
