Sleeping is the most important life-function and it is obviously linked to a better health: less diabetes, lower blood pressure, a lower risk of heart attack.
Do you know that many doctors relate prolonged lack of sleep and stress to cancer?

Sleeping is the best medicine for everything and it's free.

So make sure that you do everything to avoid insomnia (yes, you can prevent it) because it will affect your personal life, work, and health.

The symptoms of a sleeping disorder

You cannot sleep one night or two. After a week or two of having so-so sleep, the problem comes back, but this time you cannot sleep well few nights in a row.
You not only have difficulty falling asleep but also you wake up easily after few hours of sleeping and you experience difficulty in getting back to sleep again. You're getting nervous over not important things and experience heart palpitation. The more insomnia develops, the more it increases your life stress, worsens quality of your work and relationships.

The chronic disease needs a different approach!

Before having prescribed sleeping pills (again) by a Western Medicine doctor how about trying an alternative method? Here's, where a Traditional Chinese Medicine comes in handy.
It offers a long-term solution to your problem - a healthier lifestyle. Trust me, changing your lifestyle is what you need for a chronic disease like sleeping disorder, not an immediate and short-termed solution.

How did I come up with a Traditional Chinese Medicine for sleeping problems?

Sadly, I did not come up with anything.

I guess, I was just lucky to listen to my friend, who happens to be a Chinese nurse (Mandy, I owe you so much, thank you!). I went with a flow and after 3 weeks of TCM therapy I was in shape again - glowing with happiness after getting rid of my sleeping disorder.
One year passed when I had my first TCM treatment done and I honestly don't remember to suffer from a sleepless night from that time.

Read about my life-saving treatment

According to Chinese Medicine heart and kidney yin deficiency, both cause restlessness and trương gia giới insomnia, accompanied by night sweating, thirst and dry throat, menstrual irregularities and aching lower back.

That's why the treatment will focus on strengthening the heart, building blood and calming the spirit, building yin, draining fire and nourishing the heart and kidney. I received an individual TCM treatment from the certified TCM practitioner combined of:

Tui Na Massage

Acupuncture

Cupping glass bulbs

Before choosing the type of treatment TCM doctor examined my eyes, body temperature, pulse, tongue's color, listened to my cough while pressing on my lower back.

While doing it he was asking me questions regarding cold and heat, sweating, urine and stool, thirst and menstrual cycle, which provide an important basis to differentiate treatment for every individual. Then the doctor examined my body pressing my acupuncture points and decided which points would be stimulated during the treatment.

Tui Na Massage is a special Chinese massage, which literally means "pushing and grasping"... The goal of massage is to stimulate certain points and channels in your body to make the flow of qi and blood better.

Chinese massage might be at times painful because the doctor is searching for patterns of your pain. Pain with a different diagnosis will be treated differently and the technique is highly individualized.

During the Tui Na I lied on my back and then on my stomach, some part of massage occasionally were also performed in a sitting position. The doctor used his hands (technique is called " shou fa" - the technique of the hand phượng hoàng cổ trấn in Chinese), elbows and a small wooden, flat stick to perform the massage on me.

First, TCM doctor relaxed my muscles with mild manipulations and released emotional tension, then applied stronger manipulations. In the last phase of Tui Na massage, manipulations were mild again. In the last step, he exercised my joints. Each time doctor explored my tolerance level to pain and increased force gradually.
The TCM doctor might use a special oil (they often create the mixture themselves) or paste which will protect the skin but also have a therapeutic effect. It's often lanolin & beeswax mixed with herbs to invigorate qi and blood circulation. A different type of paste is used depending on the part of the body that's being massaged.

Expect to feel pushing, grasping, pressing, kneading on your body with a different level of intensity and in pretty long sequence, to the point that you can start experiencing the pain. These are highly skilled techniques and expert movements performed according to TCM without harming the local tissues of the body and adjusted to channel system force.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture points are openings of the channels and collaterals in your body. The TCM doctor will insert needles into certain points in the body (hands, arm, foot, stomach, kynghidongduong.vn forehead, and head) to stimulate the flow of Qi and blood.

I was lying with the needles around 30 minutes and apart from acupuncture on my feet, I did not feel much pain.

Cupping

The last therapy I received was cupping. It's when my TCM doctor placed glass cups on my back and created suction. The suction supposes to mobilize blood flow and promote healing.

It wasn't a painful experience, just reminded me of Polish glass cupping we do back home when getting cold.

Results

As I said it earlier - it really works! It's exciting to tell you about my positive experience with TCM, so I would definitely recommend you to give it a try.

It took me 3 weeks and around 6 of the session with my TCM doctor to cure me of my sleeping disorder. I also learned about food therapy that promotes better sleep as well as about few methods to try out home in order to prevent sleeping disorder. You can read about them in the articles I published in my blog annareco.com

Let me know if you had similarly positive experience with TCM treatments.
