Ranked as a world natural heritage site, Halong Bay draws attentions of both domestic and foreign tourists. It owns the "unworldly" beauty with limestone karsts of numerous shapes casting shadows in the blue water, spectacular stalactites and unspoiled beaches.

One interesting thing is that in Halong Bay, every island, cave and beach has its own legends clinging to love and life of human and the process of building and protecting the country.

Coming to Trinh Nu cave, tourists will be attracted by a tragic love story. Trinh Nu cave lies on Bo Hon islands system including Sung Sot cave, Dong Tien lake and Luon cave. Legend has it that in one fishing village, there was one beautiful girl from a poor family; her family were employed by the owner of the fishing area. Being passionately fond of her beauty, the owner forced her family to make her become his concubine. But she refused because she had the boyfriend who was off the land in preparation for their wedding day. Failing in the attempt to persuade her, the owner banished her to a desert island. Suffering from hunger and exhaustion, in one rainy night, the girl was changed into rock. Heard of the girl's accident, the boy was absorbed in looking for her. One day, thunderstorms struck his boat and made him drift on a desert island. At this time, he realized his lover from the distance but he could not talk to the girl because his words were swept away by the wind. He used a stone slab continuously beating on the cliff. After that, he gradually became exhausted and was also changed into rock. This legend is seen as the origin of Trinh Nu and Trong caves.

The longest cave in Halong bay, Hanh cave, also has a legend. According to ancient legend, three beautiful girls rowed a boat into the cave. Being engrossed in beautiful scenery, they were not aware of rising tide. Consequently, their boat cannot leave out the cave and all of them drown.
